DJI Mini 3 Pro Firmware Update (Step-by-Step Guide)
Table of Contents
Firmware can be a heck of a thing, that’s for sure. We’ve been talking a lot about the DJI Mini 3 and its firmware lately. There’s a good reason for that, as DJI has been putting out newer versions of firmware at a fairly quick rate.
In order to ensure that you don’t experience some of the issues others have had, maintaining the most up-to-date firmware is a must.
How do you do that?
You can update your DJI Mini 3 Pro firmware in several ways, including through the DJI Fly App and the DJI Assistant App. The most recent version of the firmware (as of this writing) is v.01.01.0200 and mostly include bug fixes.
In this guide, we’ll explain more about the latest Mini 3 Pro firmware update and how to get your DJI drone current on its firmware.
What Is the Latest DJI Firmware Update, Anyway? #
As of this time, the most recent firmware update available for the DJI Mini 3 is version number v01.01.0200.
You will also want to make sure you have the latest version of the DJI Fly App to update the Mini 3. That would be version 1.6.9.
So what does the latest Mini 3 firmware update do?
Well, the DJI Mini 3 has had a rough go of things due to some faulty firmware issues since being released.
There was an issue with range initially.
Then there was the issue of the missing maps, oh, and of course, that crazy one where some people’s controllers were locking up or the screen was going dark.
It’s not surprising at all that an update came out relatively quickly to correct that.
It’s all par for the course sadly, as firmware can be very complicated. One change can have a dramatic effect on the rest of the coding.
Like the other updates before it, this most recent update is a stepping stone. As problems come up, DJI is actively working to identify the issue and write new code to correct it.
That’s why the recent update is mainly a bug fix update. One of the biggest fixes in this most recent update was stopping the DJI Fly app from crashing.
Another issue reported and fixed from this update was the screen going blank when flying for an extended period or in hot weather when using the on-screen controller.
The most recent update wasn’t just about fixes, though. Some of it was upgrading the SD card so that it can identify the speed of the card that is inserted.
This is a wonderful addition and will keep many from trying and using the wrong SD card as it will make sure the card inserted meets the new speed class requirement.
At the rate that the updates are being released, it can be difficult to keep up.
If you ever question which version of firmware you’re running, it’s always good to double-check. It only takes a few moments and could save you a whole lot of hassle.
Another thing is that you may need to verify the firmware on all the components, such as the aircraft, controller, and app device. That’s because one of the most recent updates brought a new capability to the DJI RC Remote.
It now works and is compatible with the DJI Mavic 3. This was something we had hoped we would see for a while, and it finally came to fruition.
So, who knows what we might get next from DJI? Certainly, more bug fixes will be coming, although it does look like DJI may have finally hammered most of them all out. Fingers crossed.
How to Update the DJI Mini 3 Firmware #
There are three ways that your DJI Mini 3 can be updated. The first two methods are through the DJI Fly App itself and can also be the easiest way to update.
The third method is through the DJI Assistant App.
Let’s go over both your options for updating the Mini 3’s firmware now.
Updating DJI Mini 3 Firmware Through the Fly App #
If using the DJI Fly App to update the Mini 3’s firmware, an internet connection is required.
Once you’re online, here’s what you do.
- Power on the aircraft and the controller.
- Once the two devices are on and linked, the Fly App will automatically check for any firmware updates for the aircraft and controller.
- If an update is available, a notification will appear on the screen.
- Tap Update.
- The update will initiate.
- The aircraft will automatically restart once the update is complete.
That’s it!
Another means of updating your Mini 3 firmware is by checking to see what version your app is running.
Here are the steps for that.
- From the main app screen, tap the three dots in the upper right-hand corner. This will open the main setting page.
- From the main setting page, tap the option marked ABOUT.This will bring up the information page for your Mini 3. There’s a lot of useful information on this page. For example, you can check and see what firmware is currently in your Mini 3.
- Go to the firmware and tap CHECK FOR UPDATES.If there is a newer version of the firmware, it will download and install the latest version for you.
Updating DJI Mini 3 Firmware Through DJI Assistant 2 #
The third method that can be used to update the DJI Mini 3 is by using a computer or similar device and DJI’s Assistant 2 program.
Be sure to download the correct DJI Assistant 2, as there are multiple versions available.
Then follow these steps.
- Begin by powering on the aircraft.
- Use a USB cable to connect it to a computer.
- Launch the Assistant 2 application and log into your DJI account.
- Select the aircraft that has been connected.
- Here you should see a button for “Firmware Update.”
- Click on it, and the Assistant 2 app will refresh the firmware list.
- Select the firmware version you’re looking to upload and click. This will begin the update.
- Whenever you’re doing a firmware update, ensure the device remains powered on during the updating process.
- Once that update has been completed, exit the Assistant 2 app and disconnect the aircraft from the computer.
- The drone should automatically restart, indicating the update is complete.
This same method and process can also be used to update your controller as well.
How to Update the DJI Fly App #
What if you’re not running the most recent version of the DJI Fly App? Then it will be impossible to update the firmware for the Mini 3 Pro in the app’s outdated state.
You need to update the app first, so let’s talk about how to do that.
Updating Within the App #
- Open the DJI Fly App‘s main start screen.
- Tap Profile.
- From the profile page on the right-side, tap Settings.
- This will open the settings page form.
- Here, you can check for Fly app updates.
- Once the app is updated, you can then proceed to update the Mini 3 Pro’s firmware.
Conclusion #
DJI is aware of the issues with the Mini 3 Pro and is actively working on them.
In the meantime, the best thing to do is keep your Fly App current so you can check for firmware updates.
Then download those updates as they arise.
Although it seems like DJI is rolling out a ton of updates right now, it’s only to make the Mini 3 Pro the best drone it can be.
It’s a bit of a hassle to download all the firmware, but it will be worth it later!
