DJI Mini 3 Pro – How to Factory Reset (Step-by-Step Guide with Video)

May 10, 2022, the day the Mini 3 Pro was launched and took the drone world by storm.

Whether a beginner, drone enthusiast, vlogger, or seasoned Pro, the Mini 3 Pro has something for everyone. It does a lot and does a lot correctly.

Although this might be the case, there are some who are looking to move on from the Mini 3 Pro, perhaps selling or gifting the unit.

Maybe they really want to get into FPV, especially with the DJI Avata out now, or they are looking to jump into a larger prosumer drone like the Mavic 3.

There might be some that are looking to get the Mini 3 Pro back to where it was when they initially purchased it, to flush out some bugs they might be experiencing.

Regardless of the reason, many are wondering if the Mini 3 Pro can be factory reset, and if so, how?

While the Mini 3 Pro drone cannot be factory reset, per se, the Mini 3 Pro and RC-N1 Remote Controller firmware can be rolled back using the DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drones Series) software. On the other hand, the DJI RC Remote Controller can be factory reset, from within the preloaded DJI Fly software on the remote controller.

We will discuss how to perform all of these rollbacks and resets for the Mini 3 Pro, RC-N1, and DJI RC.

DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drone Series) #

In order to access either the Mini 3 Pro or RC-N1 controller for a firmware rollback, the DJI Assistant 2 software needs to be installed on your PC or Mac.

To do so, go to the Mini 3 Pros download center, located here.

On the downloads page, choose the correct version for the computer operating system you are working on, either Mac or Windows.

After you have downloaded the software, install it using the normal methods of installation for your computer type.

Now that the software is installed, we can go through the steps for each piece of equipment.

Mini 3 Pro Firmware #

If your Mini 3 Pro has firmware that can be rolled back to a previous version, follow these steps:

STEP 1: Connect the USB-C cable that came with the Mini 3 Pro to your PC or Mac. Without connecting the Mini 3 Pro, open the DJI Assistant 2 software and log in to your DJI account.

STEP 2: There will be a screen showing that the Mini 3 Pro will then need to be connected. With the USB-C cable that came with the Mini 3 Pro, connect the drone to the computer via the USB-C cable.

STEP 3: After the Mini 3 Pro is connected, the DJI Assistant 2 software will recognize the drone. Press the DJI Mini 3 Pro icon on the Connected Devices screen.

STEP 4: On the Firmware Update tab, you will see a listing of Mini 3 Pro firmware versions. If you can downgrade to a previous version, the option will be highlighted in blue.

For my Mini 3 Pro (I know, it’s not on the newest firmware release), there are two upgrades available, a refresh and a Downgrade.

Choose the option that works for your particular situation.

RC-N1 Remote Controller Firmware #

Like with the Mini 3 Pro firmware roll-back, the RC-N1 will need to be connected to the DJI Assistant 2 software.

STEP 1: Connect the USB-C cable that came with the Mini 3 Pro to your PC or Mac. Without connecting the DJI RC, open the DJI Assistant 2 software and log in to your DJI account (if you have not already done so prior).

STEP 2: There will be a screen showing that the RC-N1 Remote Controller will then need to be connected. With the USB-C cable that came with the Mini 3 Pro, connect the RC to the computer via the USB-C cable.

STEP 3: After the RC-N1 is connected, the DJI Assistant 2 software will recognize the RC. Press the DJI RC-N1 icon on the Connected Devices screen.

STEP 4: On the Firmware Update tab, you will see a listing of RC-N1 firmware versions. Again, if you can downgrade to a previous version, the option will be highlighted in blue.

My RC-N1 is current and no previous firmware versions are available to roll back to. Your particular RC-N1 may have the option to Refresh or Downgrade.

After work in the Assistant 2 software has been completed, either for the Mini 3 Pro or the RC-N1, log out of the software and disconnect the USB-C cable.

DJI RC Factory Reset #

Unlike the Mini 3 Pro and the RC-N1, the DI RC can be factory reset. It is quite easy to reset the remote controller, as it is basically an Android smart device.

Note: Factory resetting the DJI RC does not roll back the current firmware. It removes all saved user information and data from the remote controller.

To factory reset the DJI RC RC, follow these steps:

STEP 1: After powering on the RC, touch the top of the screen and slide down twice (with either your thumb, pictured below, or with an index finger). This will bring you to the Android drop-down or notifications screen.

STEP 2: Tap the setting menu in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

This will open the settings screen.

STEP 3: Tap the System option at the bottom of the screen.

STEP 4: Tap Reset Options

STEP 5: Press Erase all data (factory reset)

STEP 6: You will then be presented with a listing of what will be erased from the remote controller. Choose Erase all data.

After these steps have been completed, the DJI RC will be “back to new condition”, from a software standpoint.

Planning on Selling or Gifting your Mini 3 Pro and DJI RC? #

Aside from factory resetting and rolling back the DJI Mini 3 Pro, RC-N1 remote controller, and DJI RC for bug and performance-related reasons, some might be selling or gifting their Mini 3 Pros.

In addition to the aforementioned steps to get the drone and remote controllers back to their original software conditions, there is a necessary, albeit easy, final step that needs to be performed.

This would be the removal of your current DJI Account information on the DJI RC.

STEP 1: Boot up the DJI RC. Once in the DJI Fly app, go to the Profile icon at the bottom of the screen.

STEP 2: Once on the Profile screen, scroll down on the right-hand side until you see the Settings tab. Go into Settings.

STEP 3: Choose Log Out on the left side of the screen.

STEP 4: Confirm you would like to Log Out of your DJI account. You are now done.

This will promptly remove your personal information and flight data, as this information is connected to the user account and not the drone.

Final Thoughts #

Although the Mini 3 Pro follows the current trend of DJI’s newest drones not being able to be fully factory reset, it is nice to see that there are tools for the Mini 3 Pro and RC-N1 to downgrade their current firmware versions.

This is particularly convenient for those wanting to troubleshoot current issues they might be having with either.

The DJI RC, being an Android-based smart device, ensures that you are indeed able to factory reset the remote controller as needed, with the additional step of logging out of personal DJI accounts completely.

Whether troubleshooting firmware-related issues or selling or gifting the Mini 3 Pro, there are tools available to do so simply and effectively.
