The DJI Mini 3 Pro is the latest DJI Mini drone, featuring some of the best features that make it great for beginners and intermediate-level drone pilots and photographers.

But like any other drone, it does have issues of its own. And one of the main issues users have experienced is the DJI Mini 3 Pro not pairing with the controller.

So, why would your DJI Mini 3 Pro not pair with the controller?

The main reasons DJI Mini 3 Pro may fail to pair with the controller are due to battery issues, damaged SD cards, outdated firmware, and issues with the controller app.

Please keep reading to learn more about these issues, how to fix them, and other issues you are likely to face with the Mini 3 Pro.

How do I pair my Mini 3 Pro? #

Before we go to the possible issues, let’s ensure you are trying to bind your drone and the controller correctly.

Here is a step-by-step process:

  1. Switch the drone on by pressing the power button once, then press a second time and hold for a few seconds until you hear a beep and get solid green LEDs.
  2. Connect your smartphone to the controller (if you are using the RCN1).
  3. Switch on the controller by pressing the power button once, then a second time, and hold until you get solid green LEDs. (If you are using the DJI RC with a screen, just power it up.)
  4. Open the DJI Fly App
  5. Tap on Connection Guide, and select your drone.
  6. Tap on the DJI Mini 3 Pro.
  7. You will open a screen with a connection guide, and at the bottom, the controller will attempt to find the drone.
  8. But since you have not yet connected your drone to the controller, it will say, “Unable to Connect to the Aircraft.” Click on this statement to begin the binding process.
  9. Press the drone’s power button and hold for 4 seconds. The drone will then start beeping and flashing the LEDs.
  10. On your app’s screen, tap on “Pair.”
  11. If everything is fine, it will only take a few seconds, and you should be able to see the drone’s live footage on your screen.

DJI Mini 3 Pro not pairing #

Make sure you are using the latest firmware #

If you can’t get your drone to connect to the controller, or keep getting blue LEDs instead of green, first make sure the drone and the controller are using the latest firmware.

If you are not, check for any available firmware versions. The app should also prompt you to update the latest firmware.

If you can’t find the latest firmware on your smartphone, connect your drone to the DJI Assistant 2 and check for the available firmware versions for your drone.

Remove any SD cards #

SD cards are known to malfunction or get altered often while in the drone. And when this happens, they may interfere with how the drone functions, including the pairing process. To solve this, remove the SD card on the drone and restart it.

Battery levels #

If the battery on the drone or the controller is not fully charged, they may not have enough power to complete the pairing process. Before you attempt pairing or even flying your drone, always ensure the batteries are fully charged and not damaged.

App issues #

Sometimes your mobile device may parse the DJI Fly App wrongly or lose some files along the way. Either way, uninstalling and re-installing the DJI Fly App is worth a shot before going to more complex ways to fix the pairing issue.

Contact DJI support #

If all the listed steps don’t solve your issue, contact DJI support (link). Make sure you attach a detailed video on the issue you are facing, and they can help repair or replace your drone.

Speaking of repairs, it’s also advisable to sign up for DJI Care Refresh to ensure you are covered for most of the repairs and flyaways, especially if you use the DJI RC since it sometimes experiences lags and freezes.

However, if you already have added another controller to the DJI Care package, once you add the new controller, you will get some of the other features but won’t be covered for the flyaways on the second controller.

Conclusion #

DJI has not released an official statement on why some DJI Mini 3 Pros may not be pairing, but their support offered these suggestions to users who aired this issue on forums.

But as with other common issues, they are probably working to fix it with a firmware update. They also offer to repair or replace the drone if the pairing issue is caused by a technical issue that you can’t fix.
