Best Landing Gear for DJI Mini 3 / Mini 3 Pro

The portability and small size of the DJI Mini 3 / Mini 3 Pro may have an unfavorable influence on landing and taking off these drones on most terrain.

For this reason, you should look into investing in landing gear for your DJI Mini 3 / Mini 3 Pro.

The additional landing gear for your DJI Mini 3 or Mini 3 Pro will help to raise the drone’s height for better takeoff and landing on most terrain and avoid scratching the drone’s sensors, the underneath casing, and the original landing gear.

Keep reading this article to find out more about why you should choose a landing gear for your DJI Mini 3 / Mini 3 Pro and what our top choices are.

Why do you need landing gear for your DJI Mini 3 / Mini 3 Pro? #

The DJI Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro drones have landing gear built into them. But the Mini 3 Pro’s are way too small, in fact, almost nonexistent as compared to other drones.

There’s less than half an inch between the landing gear of the Mini 3 Pro and the drone sensors that could be exposed to being scratched when landing.

And not to mention, the underneath casing of the drone can also get very dirty or scratched for both drone models.

Too many times, this has happened to me personally – to “mow the lawn” when landing and taking off my drones, just because the landing gears are too small and the grass height reaches the propellers.

For this reason, most drone pilots, myself included, prefer to choose good landing gear for their drones, so here will follow our top landing gear recommendations for Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro.

Is there a difference between the DJI Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro drone landing gear? #

Despite already having landing gears under the drone’s body, the DJI Mini 3 drone has additional landing gears on the arms under the front motors.

This is not the case for the DJI Mini 3 Pro, where the landing gears under the arms are nonexistent.

And for this reason, when we look to buy landing gear for either DJI Mini 3 or DJI Mini 3 Pro, we will find most landing gear only for DJI Mini 3 Pro, as there are only a few existing for the DJI Mini 3 drone (not the Pro).

But many drone pilots are looking even for their DJI Mini 3 for additional landing gears – because, at the end of the day, the safety of our drone is very important, especially when we can prevent scratches and damage when landing on uneven terrain.

Foldable landing gear compatible with DJI Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro #

Having a pair of foldable landing gear is essential if you want to land your drone safely and as well keeping the drone portable – because of the foldable option.

There are quite a few types of foldable landing gear available, but not many are compatible with both DJI Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro. However, this one is.

This landing gear is a good choice because it increases the distance between your drone and the ground to 21mm, much higher than before.

In this case, you will be able to land in even more rigid terrain without the stress of unwanted surprises.

Another advantage of this landing gear is the low price point required to eliminate some landing and takeoff risks.

Floating landing gear (for DJI Mini 3 Pro only) #

If you have a DJI Mini 3 Pro drone and the environment you are flying in is not exactly the safest to land or take off, this landing gear may come in handy.

It is advertised to be able to land on water – but I wouldn’t recommend you to do so. Instead, taking off and landing on wet ground, mud (in some cases), grass, and even light snow on the ground would be a fantastic way to use them.

But beware, this landing gear is bulky – not heavy, just slightly bulky.

If carrying space is not an issue, it is a great addition to your accessory list for your DJI Mini 3 Pro and to use in some specific circumstances where having no landing gear would be disastrous.

Landing gear with LED Lights (for DJI Mini 3 Pro) #

Another type of landing gear, unfortunately, available only for the DJI Mini 3 Pro and not Mini 3, is one with spectacular LED lights.

It is a fancy way to fly your drone, but most importantly, to alert others a little bit better that a drone is flying in the area – as the landing gear will also increase the visibility of the drone quite a lot.

This type of landing gear with LED lights would not affect the sensors and the camera visibility & quality.

Spider Leg Method landing gear (for DJI Mini 3 Pro) #

Another fantastic method to keep your drone as lightweight as possible and still raise it more from the ground when landing and taking off is this spider-leg method landing gear.

This landing gear is simple and very good for landing on uneven terrain as compared to the rail-type of landing gear for your drone, as you will eliminate the chance for your drone to slide if you land it inclined, like a sleigh.

Don’t want landing gear for your DJI Mini 3 or Mini 3 Pro? Why not choose a landing pad instead?  #

Or both!

A landing pad is a great choice if you don’t want to add weight to your DJI Mini 3 or Mini 3 Pro drone and you want to keep it under 250 grams.

As well, the DJI Mini 3 may already have some landing protection as compared to DJI Mini 3 Pro, so it is understandable to hesitate.

But landing gear or no landing gear, having a landing pad is a very important element for every drone pilot, no matter where you fly your drone, from where you take off or land, and so on.

A landing pad will always protect your DJI Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro, and basically any drone you fly now and in the future, from rigid and uneven terrain, and tall grass on takeoff and landing.

Moreover, having a landing pad is important if you take off your drone from an area where there may be people around – because the landing pad is visible, and people will be alerted by the drone landing area.

I recommend you choose this landing pad for your drone if you decide to go for one.

A drone landing pad should not be a replacement for your drone landing gear. They can work very well in conjunction.

Other things to know about the drone’s landing gear #

  • The landing gear for the DJI Mini 3 and Mini 3 Pro are accessories that don’t come when you purchase your drone. All those listed above and more landing gears are, in fact, 3rd party accessories.

  • The landing gear made for DJI Mini 3 Pro normally DON’T MATCH the DJI Mini 3 standard drone. This may differ from one manufacturer to another, depending on the structure and make of the landing gears.

  • Please keep in mind that some landing gear, will add weight to your DJI Mini 3 or Mini 3 Pro drone. There’s a possibility that the weight will exceed the 250 gram barrier, where your drone will be required to follow different regulations and laws, depending on your state or country.
