You can record immersive videos up to 4K@30 and 2.7K@120 with the DJI Avata. It’s as simple as pressing the Shutter/Record button.

But it’s not very clear how to view those recorded videos or transfer them to our smartphone, tablet, or computer. How do you do it?

You can use the Goggles On-Screen Display OSD to view your recorded videos from DJI Avata. Access the Album option and select the desired video to watch. To transfer videos, remove the microSD card and insert it into your devices, or connect the Avata to the PC and copy and paste the files into it.

If you find this very complicated, don’t panic. We’ll guide you through the steps to watch videos and transfer them to your devices from Avata.

We’ll also cover what you can expect to watch in the Goggles OSD.

How to view recorded videos from DJI Avata #

Currently, you can only watch videos stored in the Goggles, which you save in the Goggles microSD card.

Consider that the video displayed on the OSD Goggles 2 will be max at 1080p, and on the FPV Goggles V2 will be 810p.

The video that the Goggles OSD display is enough to see if you recorded the shot you wanted.

However, understand that you won’t see a stabilized image, so if you have RockSteady or HorizonSteady, you won’t notice it in the Goggle recording.

The only way to watch the videos stored in Avata’s internal storage or microSD card is to transfer them first into a computer or mobile device.

Watching your recordings from the Goggles OSD is helpful so you can avoid losing time transferring videos you don’t want to your devices.

Follow some steps before attempting the recording, or you will lose all your efforts.

Use a compatible microSD card #

Ensure you have previously inserted a compatible microSD on your Goggles.

Neither of the two Goggles options has internal storage, so without a microSD card, you can’t save the Goggles recording.

To insert a compatible microSD card into the Goggles:

  1. Ensure your Goggles are shut down.
  2. Locate the microSD card slot on the left side of the Goggles.
  3. Insert the compatible microSD card into the microSD card slot.
  4. Power the Goggles on.
  5. Check if there is any prompt about microSD card malfunction.
  6. If there is no such prompt, you have correctly installed the microSD card.

Enable Camera View Recording #

Next, you must enable the Camera View Recording, or the Goggles won’t record and save the video in the microSD.

If you’re using the Goggles 2:

  1. Swipe your finger forward on the touch panel to access the Menu.
  2. Swipe your finger down on the touch panel to highlight the Settings option, and tap it.
  3. Swipe your finger down on the touch panel to highlight the Advanced Camera Settings option, and tap it.
  4. Now select the Camera View Recording option to enable it. When you enable the switch on the right, it lights up green.
  5. Swipe your finger backward on the touch panel until you exit the Menu.

Or, when using the FPV Goggles V2:

  1. Press the Goggles joystick to access the Menu.
  2. Move down the joystick to highlight the Settings option and press it.
  3. Move down the joystick to highlight the Advanced Camera Settings option, and press it.
  4. Now select the Camera View Recording option to enable it. When you enable the switch on the right, it lights green.
  5. Press the Back button on the Goggles until you exit the Menu.

Goggles 2 video view #

The process of viewing the videos on the Goggles 2 is very easy. You only need to access the Album option located in the Menu as follows:

  1. Swipe your finger forward on the touch panel to access the Menu.
  2. Swipe your finger down on the touch panel to highlight the Album option, and tap it.
  3. Swipe your finger forward, backward, up, or down to highlight the desired video to preview.
  4. Tap the touch panel, and the video starts to play.

FPV Goggles V2 video view #

With these Goggles, the procedures change slightly:

  1. Press the Goggles joystick to access the Menu.
  2. Move down the joystick to highlight the Album option, and press it.
  3. Move the joystick to the left, right, up, or down to highlight the desired video to preview.
  4. Press the joystick, and the video starts to play.

Does the DJI Fly app work to view videos from DJI Avata? #

Sadly, it doesn’t, or at least at the time of writing this article.

The reason is that Avata lacks access to the DJI Fly app Album option, which you find in the camera view.

How to transfer recorded videos from DJI Avata #

Here, you have two options. You can remove the microSD card to insert it into your device or connect the Avata via USB-C to a computer.

Although most Android devices have a microSD card slot, and you can purchase an SD adapter for iOS devices, we advise you always transfer the data to your computer.

The reason is that the file management system on Android and iOS isn’t as easy as on Windows or macOS. So you might save the files in folders you don’t easily remember, so accessing them is a pain.

So let’s look at transferring your videos from a microSD card to a computer.

Transfer via microSD card #

With macOS computers, you need a USB-C to SD card adapter. Or, if you have a Macbook made before 2015, you need a USB-A to SD card adapter.

Using an SD adapter for a Windows device is weird, as they generally come with an SD card slot. If your computer lacks this port, you need a USB-C to SD card adapter or USB-A to SD card adapter.

You would also need an SD card reader, where you install the microSD card for the computer to read it. The reason is that microSD card slots in computers are uncommon.

Once you have the necessary equipment, proceed as follows:

  1. Shut down your Avata and Goggles.
  2. Remove the SD cards from the Avata and Goggles.
  3. Insert the microSD card into the SD card reader.
  4. Connect the SD adapter to your computer only if your computer lacks an SD card reader.
  5. Insert the SD card reader into the adapter.
  6. Generally, the microSD card folder pops up.

If not, press the Finder on your Macbook to bring up the folders and search for the microSD card in the left vertical bar.

In Windows, press the Windows logo and the letter E simultaneously to open the Home folder. Find the microSD card by scrolling through the folders.

Copy and paste your videos from the microSD folder to the computer.

But what if you want to avoid the work of removing the SD card, and purchasing an adapter and an SD card reader?

Transfer via USB-C cable #

Then you can use a USB-C to USB-C cable to transfer the videos to the computer. Consider that your computer needs a USB-C or Thunderbolt port for this method to work without any adapter..

The procedure is like the microSD card one, but with few steps.

  1. Power off your Avata.
  2. Open the USB-C/microSD card slot cover.
  3. Connect one end of the USB-C cable to your Avata. The remaining USB-C end connects to your computer. Use the OTG cable that came with your Avata if your laptop lacks a USB-C port.
  4. The microSD card and Avata internal storage folder pop up.

If not, press the Finder on your Macbook to open the folders and search for the microSD card and Avata internal storage in the left vertical bar.

In Windows, press the Windows logo and the letter E simultaneously to open the Home folder. Find the microSD card and Avata internal storage by scrolling through the folders.

Copy and paste your videos to the computer from the microSD folder and Avata internal storage.

Does the DJI Avata have QuickTransfer? #

Not at the time of writing this article. The reason is that QuickTransfer is a DJI Fly app function.

The Goggles don’t use the DJI Fly app interface, and they can’t access the most attractive features of this app, such as Intelligent Flight modes and QuickTransfer.

For most pilots used to photography, this isn’t an issue. They transfer the videos to their devices through USB-C and SD card readers.

Ultimately, the Avata isn’t the easiest-to-transfer video device ever made by DJI. However, DJI constantly makes firmware updates, and this topic is undoubtedly a priority for them.
