DJI Mini 3 Pro – How to Change Controller Settings (Explained)

The DJI RC has the required buttons and joysticks to control and maneuver the Mini 3 Pro drone, gimbal, and camera.

The built-in crisp display lets us see the navigation live with FHD resolution at 30FPS. Yet how do you change the controller settings?

To change the controller settings for the DJI Mini 3 Pro, use gestures like finger slides and taps to operate the tactile screen. You can change settings such as the RC volume and screen brightness or even calibrate the compass.

This article will show you all the DJI RC settings you can change, what they do, and how to change them.

For now, the DJI RC is the most sophisticated controller you can use with a Mini 3 Pro.

It’s helpful to pilots to avoid using their mobile devices as the screen.

The Fly app is preinstalled, popping up when you power it on, and it lasts up to four hours, needing only an hour and 30 minutes to fully charge with a 15W (5V/3A) power adapter.

The DJI RC uses an Android operating system with a unique interface design.

So if you are used to operating an iOS device, you will find it a bit different. Its usage even differs from other Android devices like Samsung or Motorola.

One of this controller’s most exciting components is the built-in tactile display. You can control its features from this screen and change all the remote controller settings with simple gestures.

Tap gesture #

Tapping the screen on an icon, button, or option grants access to apps, features, and settings.

Slide gesture #

You can activate several outcomes by sliding your finger on the screen.

• To return to the previous screen view, slide your finger from the right or left edge to the center of the screen.

• If you want to return to the Fly app home screen, slide your finger from the bottom edge to the center.

• You see the status bar on top by sliding your finger from the top edge to the center. The status bar pops up for three seconds and then disappears. It displays the current hour on the left and the battery level, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals on the right.

• The final sliding gesture is to access Quick Settings. Slide your finger from the top edge to the center of the screen. Once the status bar appears on top, slide your finger from the top edge to the center again.

Now in the Quick Settings tab, you can change the settings by using the tap or slide gestures as follows.

Notifications #

This tab appears on the left, showing messages from DJI, firmware updates, or relevant information. You will see the newest notification on top.

To access each notification, tap it, and it will pop up. Once you see it, the notification disappears from the tab.

We recommend you check all notifications. But in case you don’t want to read one slide it to the left or right. It will disappear.

If you don’t want to see notifications, tap the X button on the right-top corner of the notification tab to exit it.

System settings #

This option appears on the right as a nut icon. By tapping it once, the setting dedicated to the screen view emerges.

From here, you can configure Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections.

• Tap Wi-Fi to see the available networks. Scroll down or up through the list, sliding your finger up or down and pressing one once to connect.

• Bluetooth works the same. Tap it and access the list of available Bluetooth devices to connect to. You can scroll through the list and press the desired device to connect.

Another important System Setting option is the Guide. Tapping it sends you to a dedicated screen view, where you can learn the controls and status LEDs.

Shortcuts #

Located on the right, these icons save you time using fewer gestures. Tap these icons once to activate the desired feature.

• To automatically connect to a Wi-Fi network, tap its icon. The RC connects to the strongest Wi-Fi network signal you have previously configured on System Settings.

• Tap the Bluetooth icon, and your RC automatically pairs with the preferred Bluetooth device. It only automatically connects with the ones you previously configured on System Settings.

• Pressing the airplane mode icon, you disable all data connections that interfere with radio-frequency equipment installed in commercial aircraft, so you can’t connect to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

• The prohibited icon mutes all notifications and alerts. We don’t recommend enabling this function unless notifications distract you from flying.

The remaining two shortcuts are helpful for tutorials and, more importantly, sending pictures and videos to DJI for support and warranty.

• Once you tap the record icon, the Fly app records the screen. You will see a red record icon with the recording time to the side.

• To stop the recording, tap the red record icon.

• If you want to take a photo of a screen view you are currently in, tap the scissors icon.

Note: The screenshots and screen recordings shortcuts will only work if there is an available storage source. Ensure you have inserted the microSD card previously.

Brightness and volume #

The final two Quick Settings bars help you adjust the brightness and volume level. The bar with the sun on the left represents the brightness. Below is the volume bar with a speaker.

To adjust these features, you must combine tapping and sliding gestures.

• Tap the bar and hold your finger.
• Slide to the right or left to adjust the feature.

Compass calibration #

The compass calibration is an advanced feature you can quickly access within the System Setting icon.

To calibrate the compass, proceed as follows:

1. Access Quick Settings by ****sliding your fingers twice from the top edge to the center.
2. Tap the nut icon to access the System Settings.
3. Now, press Compass.
4. Follow the on-screen steps and read them all. They advise you on crucial information for a successful calibration.
5. Once the calibration finishes the calibration successfully, a prompt pops up.
