The DJI Mini 3 is a terrific drone with a compact body design affixed with numerous compelling features, which explains why it is among the most coveted UAVs in the drone community.

Nonetheless, like most artificial systems, the DJI Mini Pro exhibits issues such as not turning on even after pressing the power button desperately.

There are several potential reasons your DJI Mini 3 Pro may not turn on, including the following:

  • Failing to turn on the drone the right way
  • Not activating the battery before using the drone (for first-time users)
  • Improper charging of the battery
  • Dirty/dusty battery
  • Extreme weather conditions
  • Faulty mainboard
  • Water damage, and many more

If you just tried to switch on your DJI Mini 3 drone and never got the expected magical response, you are at the right place.

This article closely examines why your DJI Mini 3 drone may not turn on and how to handle the situation.

Why your DJI Mini Pro isn’t turning on and what to do?

While some of the reasons your DJI Mini 3 is not turning on are problems originating from the drone itself, some are newbie mistakes that require skill sharpening.

Here are common causes of the DJI Mini 3 not turning on and their potential solutions.

1. Failing to turn on the drone the correct way #

If you are an experienced DJI Mini 3 pilot, you are less likely to experience problems with turning on your drone correctly.

However, if you are using the DJI drone for the first time, it is easy to commit this error. One of the reasons for this error is that DJI drones operate with intelligent toggle batteries.

Therefore, once you get your drone out of the box and unfold it, you must press the battery button once, let go, and then press the second time and hold for about 3 seconds.

Once you complete the two steps process, the drone should be ready to take to the skies.

2. Too cold for the battery to function #

Extreme weather conditions can result in a situation where your DJI drone may not turn on. For instance, your drone may not start if it is too cold.

Generally, drone batteries do not cope well in extreme weather conditions, which is evident in the drone manual.

If you have exposed your battery to a very cold environment below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, it may not work. The best thing to do is to preheat the batteries before putting them back into the drone.

However, if you find yourself in a place dominated by very cold weather conditions below 14 degrees Fahrenheit, you may not be able to use your drone.

3. Dirty or dusty batteries #

Another potential reason your drone is not turning on is a dirty or dusty battery.

If you have kept your drone for a long time without using it, the dirt or dust that might have accumulated on the terminals may prevent the batteries from working.

To determine whether the dust and dirt on the batteries are the problems, you need to replace them with a different pair and switch the drone on.

If it works, that clearly indicates that the batteries are the problem, and you need to pinpoint the specific issue on your batteries.

For starters, check if the terminals are dirt. You may need further investigation if the battery does not have dirt or debris on its terminals.

For instance, you should check whether the batteries are fully charged or damaged.

4. Water damaged #

While doing research, I realized that one of the common questions most people ask is whether the DJI Mini 3 is waterproof.

Unfortunately, the DJI Mini 3 is not waterproof. Therefore, to ensure the functionality of your drone, you must avoid contact with water by all means possible.

However, if your drone has come into contact with water, several steps can be taken to prevent further damage.

The steps include:

  1. Taking it out of the water swiftly
  2. Switching it off and taking the battery out immediately
  3. Disassembling the drone to make it easy to dry it
  4. If it falls in salt water, do a quick distilled water flush
  5. After the above steps, after the DJI Mini 3 dries, you can turn it on to assess the damage

If your DJI Mini 3 stays in the water for a long time, you may lose it for good.

5. Failing to activate the battery #

If your drone is brand new and it is not turning on, then the chances are that you are yet to activate the battery.

Ordinarily, DJI batteries come in hibernation mode and are normally 50% charged.

The main reason for the hibernation mode is to guarantee the safe transportation of the batteries.

To activate your DJI batteries, you need to connect the drone to the battery charger, and the battery will be activated.

After activating the battery, ensure that you turn on your drone correctly to avoid any issues that may result from turning your drone on incorrectly.

6. Charging your battery too soon #

If you do not have spare batteries, you may be tempted to recharge your battery as soon as you land your drone.

The danger of such an action is that DJI batteries can get very hot when flying the drone, and if you try to recharge them when they are in that state, you may end up damaging the battery cells.

The damage resulting from charging your batteries when they are hot is irreversible damage that may hinder you from getting the desired results when turning the drone on.

The best practice for recharging your DJI batteries is to remove them from the drone and wait for about 30 minutes before starting the recharging process.

7. Damaged drone #

Pertaining specifically to the Mini 3 Pro, although the drone is equipped with 3-directional obstacle sensing systems, it doesn’t mean it can’t crash.

If you crashed your DJI Mini 3 Pro or DJI Mini 3 and it is not turning on, the chances are the crash damaged its internal structure, and you may need to repair the damage before you can resume operations.

The good news is that you can always contact DJI to repair your drone if a warranty covers you.

If you do not have a warranty and are not an expert in conducting such repairs, you can always get experts around you to help repair your drone.

8. Faulty mainboard #

If you have checked your drone for the above errors and found none, you may have a faulty mainboard.

With a defective mainboard, there isn’t much you can do other than use your warranty to get the DJI to repair the drone.

Alternatively, you can look for an expert who is capable of helping you fix the condition and bring your Mini 3 back to life.

Why won’t my DJI Mini 3 charge? #

If you troubleshoot your drone and determine that the problem is because the battery won’t charge, you may want to find the reason for that.

A few reasons your DJI Min 3 battery not charging include the following:

  • Outdated battery firmware
  • Damaged battery cells
  • Bad charger
  • Too hot battery to charge
  • The battery may be in hibernation mode

How long does the DJI Mini 3 take to charge? #

If you are using the DJI Mini 3 Pro Two-Way charging hub, you will need 57 minutes to charge a single battery fully.

When charging the battery without removing it from the drone you will need 101 minutes to fully charge the battery without removing it from the drone.

What is the best battery charger for DJI Mini 3? #

One of the best ways to ensure you do not experience problems with your DJI Mini 3 Pro is to invest in a quality charger.

A quality charger is essential in ensuring that your battery is always full. But what is the best battery charger for your DJI Mini 3?

While there are many chargers to choose from, the DJI 30W USB-C Charger is the best option for high efficiency and incredible charging speed.

Moreover, the charger is compatible with different drones, including;

  • DJI Mini SE
  • Mavic Mini
  • DJI Mini 2
  • DJI Mini 3 Pro Two-Way Charging Hub
  • Mavic Mini Charging Base
