How to Record Video on DJI Mini 3 Pro (Step-by-Step Guide)

Do you want to capture incredible scenes with your Mini 3 Pro, such as the ones you watch on YouTube or Instagram?

The process is straightforward.

To record video on DJI Mini 3 Pro, go to camera view and press the record red button on the right side of the screen. Also, if you are using a mobile device with an RC-N1, ensure that you are in recording mode, and press the right trigger once to start recording. Or press the left trigger once to record when using a DJI RC.

But first, let’s review the simple steps to record a video.

Record Video on DJI Mini 3 Pro #

To record a video with your drone, you first need to pair it with a remote controller or device.

RC-N1 #

As the RC-N1 lacks a screen, it connects to mobile devices that can use the DJI Fly app. Check out our article here for recommended mobile devices.

Connect the RC-N1 to your mobile device via USB-C, lighting, or another cable.
Power ON your remote controller by pressing the power button for two seconds.
Open the Fly app, and tap the Connection Guide in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
Find the DJI Mini 3 Pro by sliding your finger to the left.
Select it, and follow the on-screen steps to connect your drone with the RC-N1 and mobile device.

This process will get you to the camera view, showing what the drone sees with its camera.

To start recording, you only need to press the red circle button on the right side of the screen one time.

The camera view is in video recording mode by default. However, you can change from photo to video by pressing the Photo/Video toggle. It’s also the first trigger in the upper-right corner of the RC-N1.

After you ensure it is on video mode, another way is to press the right RC-N1 second trigger to start recording.

DJI RC #

This remote controller comes with a built-in screen, so power it and pair it with your drone. Then go to the camera view.

To start recording, press the first trigger in the upper-left corner of the DJI RC.

Now that you know the steps to record on your Mini 3 Pro, let’s discuss the Intelligent Flight Modes.

Intelligent Flight Modes #

The Mini 3 Pro comes with four Intelligent Flight Modes.

These modes make your life easier, moving the drone automatically or semiautomatically while filming. They are aids that make your videos more dynamic and expressive.

Before launching any mode, please be cautious with your drone. The Mini 3 Pro only has three directional obstacle avoidance sensors. So only use the Intelligent Flight Mode in obstacle-free areas.

Also, confirm the video format is 4K 30 FPS, as the default settings are 1080P 30. To change it, find the Format section on the button-right side of the camera view.

FocusTrack #

The first and most exciting for the majority of pilots is the FocusTrack or Follow-me mode. In this mode, the drone will follow people or vehicles while filming them.

QuickShots #

Let’s say you want to make a thrilling short film of yourself in a lovely landscape. QuickShots allows your Mini 3 Pro to capture up to 30-second videos with exciting camera movements.

To access this mode, hover the aircraft at a minimum distance of 2 m or 6.6 ft.

Go to the Fly app and then to the camera view.
Tap the Shooting Modes icon located above the screen Record Button.
From the deployable list, choose QuickShots.
Now select the target you want to record.
Next, pick one of the modes available and press Start. The drone will automatically maneuver while locking the screen at the target.

👉 Dronie is the first mode you see. The Mini 3 Pro flies away at a 45-degree angle from the subject you targeted.

👉 With Rocket, your drone flies away vertically from the subject.

👉 In Circle mode, the drone will fly an orbit whose center is the target.

👉 The Mini 3 Pro ascends vertically while circling the target when using Helix.

👉 With Boomerang, the drone flies away in an elliptical movement and then comes back by simulating a boomerang.

👉 The most breathtaking QuickShots mode is the Asteroid. Your Mini 3 Pro starts with a Dronie movement up to a certain altitude, taking several shots of the surroundings. Then it returns to the starting point.

The final video shows a Dronie until it reaches maximum altitude, at which point the camera simulates the earth viewed from outer space.

The earth view is the collage of photos the drone captured at that height.

MasterShots #

What if you don’t know which QuickShot is the best format for your video?

MasterShots mode combines the QuickShots modes arbitrarily in one video.

It is helpful when you can’t decide which QuickShots mode is best for a scene. With MasterShots, you can choose the parts of the video that you find more appealing.

However, the final video looks robotic, as the drone camera goes from one mode to another with noticeable variations. Also, consider you won’t be able to control which QuickShots your drone will capture.

MasterShots intends to collect a series of scenes so you can pick the ones you like the most.

To access MasterShots:

Go to Shooting Modes in camera View.
Once in MasterShots, select the target.
Now tap the estimated flying time box to change the width, height, length, and start point.

Hyperlapse #

Finally, we can take consecutive images while the drone is flying.

The final product is a video where people, animals, or things in motion appear to be moving in fast forward. This is better known as Hyperlapse.

This is a helpful mode to show how an environment changes with time. For example, you can capture a stunning sunset from the sky.

To access this mode:

Go to Shooting Modes in camera View and select Hyperlapse.
Select the reference and press any of the following modes.

👉 The Free feature is the hardest to use, as you control the drone and the gimbal. The camera takes pictures by itself.

Another way to use the Free Hyperlapse is by leaving the aircraft on the ground, working as a camera only. However, we don’t encourage using Free while flying the drone unless you are an expert pilot.

👉 Then you can use the other modes like the Circle. Here you select a reference the drone will fly around taking shots.

👉 The Course Lock sets the drone in a straight-line route while you control the gimbal and rotate the drone.

👉 Use Waypoints to set a path for the drone to follow without the straight-line restriction. Here you can set up to five points for the drone to fly to by itself. You can rotate the gimbal and drone as you wish.

Once you select any of these modes, choose the interval at which the drone camera will take photos. Then you can change the video length and the drone max speed.

Keep in mind that Hyperlapse videos need post-editing, as they look robotic.

Shooting with automatic modes #

You can choose to record in automatic or manual mode.

The 48MP camera has ISO dual native with automatic HDR built-in. This means the camera adapts to the environment producing videos with good quality.

No matter if filming in a bright or dark place, the camera will capture crisp video. However, this feature doesn’t get the desired outcome for professionals.
