INTRODUCTION #

After the excellent Hubsan H501S, a compact GPS-FPV brushless quadcopter equiped of a 1080p, here is the Hubsan H501C, the quadcopter is amputated of the FPV ring. Only the 1080p camera module and the GPS flight assistance remain.

BOX CONTENT #

  • 1 x Hubsan H501C (with a 2S 2700mAh LiPo with EC2 connector)
  • 1 x Transmitter (using 4xAAA batteries not included)
  • 1 x Charger
  • 4 x Spare props (2 CW, 2 CCW)
  • 1 x Instruction manual (English).

OVERVIEW #

Absoluptly no visual changes with the H501S version. The same profil, same props, motors, and 1080p camera. You have the same flexible plastic canopy structure able to absorb relatively well moderate crashes.

The microUSB is Inside the battery bay, on the left side.

With the light turned on

No problem for night flights
The microSD port. No click when you insert the card… just push it at maximum limit
Unfortunatly Hubsan don’t offer any microSD card in the bundle …. ?
-WEIGHT
450g AWG

Motors #

Now with the C version, motors are painted in black. Same 22 type brushless motors as for the S version
The 7.3″ inch prop, the same as for the H501S

LiPo #

The same 2700mAh 2S LiPo, rated 10C with an EC2 connector. 10C only but with a 2700mAh capacity should offer longer flight times but reduce the sporty behaviour of the machine. Without the FPV ring, you can expect more than 20min of flight time … Impressive.

Camera module #

Transmitter #

The same gamepad transmitter as for the H502E, a basic model but with a tiny LCD display. This screen indicates basic telemetry informations:
current quadcopter voltage, current number of GPS satellites fixed, current headings, current distance to home and current altitude.
For the last three informations, they are printed in sequence 3s each value.
I deeply regret the non-possibility to turn on the GPS flight assistance to fly more in pure manual flight (like it can be done with the H501S radio). It would have been a super option to enjoy sporty LOS flights.

A 4pins connector is located in the battery bay, maybe a way to update the TX firmware with a serial connexion ?

UNBOXING, ANALYSIS AND DEMO FLIGHT #

CONCLUSIONS #

With a good price range, this H501C represents a stable AP with GPS flight assistance and integrating the safety RTH feature. The 1080p camera is clearly far superior comparatively than the 720p module for the H502E version. Since you can’t disable the GPS hold flight mode assistance, this machine is clearly not a sporty machine. Default settings have been optimized to be stable as maximum for the videos recording. With a great 20min of flight time (and even a little bit more), a solid transmission range, the H501C is for you if you want a quadcopter filming along the straight path or thanks to the headless mode mid-long range flights despite the absence of the FPV ring.
The new step for Hubsan is probably the integration of the EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization).
