Here are some answers to common questions about Syma drone batteries. The details are arranged based on some of the most popular Syma drone models.

What kind of battery do Syma drones use? #

Syma drones, like pretty much all other drones, use Lithium Polymer batteries, also known as LiPos. LiPo batteries are lightweight, can be molded into the shape they need to be (by the manufacturer), and offer a great power to weight ratio that allows drones to fly for longer times than other types of batteries would offer. LiPo batteries, when taken care of according to the manufacturer’s instructions, can give great satisfactory flights for several years.

Syma W1Pro Explorer Battery Information #

The W1Pro Explorer, one of Syma’s newest drones, has GPS tracking, a 4k 5G camera, waypoint capability (the drone will fly to pre-established points on a map), optical flow positioning, subject tracking, and many more features. The battery is a 1800 mAh 7.6V battery that takes 280 minutes to charge and will fly for about 17 minutes. The lights on the W1Pro Explorer will indicate the battery level. It can be charged using the included charging cable.

Syma X8Pro Battery Information #

One of the most popular Syma drones is the Syma X8Pro. It has a 720 HD image sensor and uses GPS to remember its home point and return to home. The features involved in this drone require a powerful battery to be able to operate properly.

The battery for the Syma X8Pro is a 2000 mAh 7.4 volt battery that will give you a flying time of about 9 minutes and takes about 150 minutes to charge

The Syma X8Pro battery can be taken out of the drone by powering off the drone, pressing the buttons on the bottom of the battery, and pulling it out of the drone.

To charge, you must connect the charging port plug to the battery, and connect the charger into the cradle. The LED light will be red while charging and green when fully charged. After the drone is charged (should take about 150 minutes), unplug it from the charger.

Syma Z1 Battery Information #

The Syma Z1 is a foldable drone with a lot of capability. It has a built in 6-axis gyro that allows it to hold its position very well, a headless mode that makes it easier for newer pilots to get it back home, and wireless real-time video transmission.

**The Syma Z1 is powered by a 500 mAh 3.7v battery.  This battery takes about 130 minutes to charge and will give the user a flight time of about 7 minutes. **

In order to charge a Syma Z1 battery, you must first remove it from the drone by powering off the drone and sliding the lock at the bottom of the battery. Then connect the battery to the charging cable, and insert the charging cable USB into an AC adapter or power bank. When the charging light goes off, unplug the battery.

When flying the Z1, a low battery will be indicated by flashing lights. When this happens it is time to bring it home. If there is not enough battery to make it to the home point, the Z1 will automatically land.

Syma Z3 Battery Information #

The Syma Z3 also folds up into a small package, but it packs a lot of features. This drone weighs 116 grams, and folds down to 12.5cm. It has one key take-off and landing, a headless mode (good for beginners), real-time transmission of video, and many other features.

The Syma Z3 has its own 500 mAh 3.7v battery that gives it about 8 minutes of flight. It takes about 120 minutes to charge the battery.

The Syma Z3 battery can be charged with the included charging cable, and it should be connected to a 5v input. The light will be on while charging and go off after the charging is complete.

Syma X5S Battery Information #

The Syma X5S is another fun model that Syma has to offer. This drone offers a lot of great features such as headless mode, real time HD transmission, one button 360 degree rolls, and many other fun features.

**The battery that comes with the Syma X5S is a 1400 mAh 3.7V battery that gives a charging time of about 130 minutes and flight time of about 5.5 minutes. **

The batteries in the X5S are a little easier to puncture due to their construction, so be careful with them.

Syma X25 Pro Battery Information #

The Syma X25 Pro is one of the most advanced drones in the Syma lineup. It has a lot of impressive features such as GPS return, FPV live stream, an automatic mode that will allow the drone to circle a subject, follow me mode that allows the drone to track a subject, waypoints that allow the pilot to set points and the drone automatically flies to them, and many others.

The drone also automatically protects the battery by detecting low battery and attempting to return to home as well as an overcurrent protection that will stop the propellers if they are jammed.

**The battery in this drone is a 1000 mAh 7.4V that will fully charge in about 150 minutes and will fly for up to 12 minutes. **

How do I charge Syma drone batteries? #

Syma recommends that the batteries be charged with the charger that comes with each drone. Each charger has a different method of charging, but basically, you plug the battery into the charger that came with the drone, plug the charger into the power source, and wait for the red light to turn green (or in some cases the light turns off).

In the case of the Syma X25, the green light indicates that the battery is charging and then the lights turn off when the charge is complete. Charging time varies based on the model and capacity of each battery.

How long do Syma drone batteries take to charge? #

Different batteries require different times to charge. Depending on your model, your battery could take anywhere from 120 to 280 minutes to charge. These batteries charge slowly, and it requires patience to be ready to fly. If your brand new battery is not charging then it might be a good idea to contact the manufacturer.

If you’re feeling impatient waiting for your battery to charge, and wishing you could get more time flying and less time waiting, it’s definitely worth it to get an extra battery or two. Make sure you get the correct battery for your drone model, as Syma batteries are not interchangeable across the different models.

How do I discharge Syma drone batteries? #

In general, if you are not going to be using drone batteries for a while, you should discharge your batteries to about 40-50% of their capacity. Since the Syma chargers do not allow you to do this, the best way to discharge your Syma drone batteries is to fly a fully charged battery for about half of the available flight time until it shows that it is around 40-50% of the charge.

Then bring it in and allow the batteries to remain partially discharged until you plan on flying again. When you are ready to fly again, charge the batteries to full and enjoy your flight.

**How long will a Syma drone battery last? ** #

Many factors affect the flight time of drone batteries. Specifically, for most Syma drones, the major factor in the length of flight time, or how long the battery will last, is the weather conditions at the time of flight

Low-temperature environments will cause flight times to be lower than advertised. Any time you are flying a drone in cold weather, the flight time will be different than when flying in average temperatures.

Hot and humid conditions also make for less efficient flight for the drone and will put extra strain on the batteries, thus shortening the overall flight times.

Other factors that affect flight time are the capacity of the battery and the size/weight of the drone. If the drone is heavy, you can expect it to probably have a lower flight time.

How do I know when I need to charge a Syma drone battery? #

Many of the newer models of the Syma drones will indicate a low battery using LED lights on the drone. The flight control app will also indicate low battery levels, if the drone you are flying is connected by an app.

When a low battery indicator first appears, stop your flight immediately. Running your battery too far down can damage the cells and shorten the overall life and performance of the drone battery.

Should I use aftermarket replacement batteries for Syma drones? #

There are replacement batteries available for Syma drones. After a lot of flying and charging and discharging, a battery might start to have problems holding a charge or allowing for long flight times. Perhaps you just want to have multiple batteries to be able to fly longer during your flight sessions.

If that’s the case, you can find replacement batteries for Syma drones on some sites. It would be advisable to be sure that these batteries are the right ones for your model of Syma, since there are so many different models. But in general the aftermarket replacement batteries are safe to use with your drone.

In fact, the aftermarket replacement batteries are really your only choice if you need a replacement. At the time of the writing of this article, there were no replacement batteries available for Syma drones directly on their website.

A good place to look for reputable replacement batteries for your Syma drone is Amazon. Again, just double-check to make sure it’s compatible with your Syma model.

Other general drone battery maintenance tips #

Drone batteries usually have some general guidelines for use, and in this section, I want to remind you of some general battery suggestions to help you get the most out of your Syma drone battery.

  • Do not place the batteries in high-temperature areas or expose them to heat.
  • Never place batteries in water. Be sure to store them in a cool, dry area.
  • Do not charge batteries when they are hot. Give them some time to cool down after a flight before placing them on the charger.
  • Remove the batteries from the drone and the remote control when not in use.
  • If you do not plan on using your drone for 10 days or more, discharge the batteries to 40-50% to store the batteries at a level that will maintain their life span.
  • Examine the charger and battery regularly to make sure there is no damage to the cord, transformer, or battery.
